The opening of the Tbilisi Metro station "Varketili" has been postponed again. According to updated plans, the repairs are now expected to be completed only on December 30, 2026. Work began on December 21, 2022, and initially, the station was planned to reopen to passengers in just a year and a half — on June 21, 2024.
Deadlines have been repeatedly shifted, although key works were completed in March, after which metro traffic returned to its normal schedule. Now, the continuation of repairs has been officially agreed upon by the Tbilisi Transport Company and the contractor Bada Construction.
At the same time, the station's finishing project was decided to be changed. Instead of aquapanels, aluminum panels will be installed on the ceiling, and the planned porcelain stoneware on the floor will be replaced with preserved granite — it will only be updated. Granite will also be used on the track walls instead of porcelain stoneware.
These changes significantly reduced the project cost, but the reconstruction itself has turned into a multi-year construction. If the new schedule can be adhered to, "Varketili" will fully open to passengers at the very end of 2026.
