Georgia's international reserves reached a record $7.53 billion in July 2026, an increase of approximately 50% over the year. In just one month, the indicator grew by $404.6 million. At the same time, the economy's reserve adequacy also improved: the ARA Metric, used by the IMF, reached 118.7%.
The National Bank of Georgia attributes the growth to a favorable situation in the foreign exchange market. From January to June, the regulator acquired $2.078 billion through interventions. Data on net currency purchases in July will be published on August 25.
Gold also played a significant role in increasing reserves. The NBG began including it in international reserves in 2024, and in June 2026, it additionally purchased $100 million worth of monetary gold. Now the value of gold assets stands at $1.014 billion, or 13.5% of all reserves.
The NBG promises to present updated statistics on September 7.
