Residents of Georgia have pledged gold and other valuables worth a total of 1.57 billion lari in microfinance organizations. The main part of the pledges consists of jewelry and precious metals – their estimated value reached 1.48 billion lari.
Pawnshop loans remain the main source of income for the microfinance sector. Over the year, the volume of such loans increased by 33%, or 426 million lari, reaching 1.72 billion lari. They account for about 79% of the organizations' total loan portfolio, which amounts to 2.17 billion lari.
The rise in gold prices has become one of the factors increasing business profitability: the increase in prices for precious metals has led to an increase in the valuation of pledges. In the first half of 2026, Georgian microfinance organizations received 287 million lari in interest income – 43% more than a year earlier, and the sector's net profit grew to 117.5 million lari compared to 70.5 million lari a year earlier.
