Loans in Georgia are growing at a record pace: banks issued almost a billion lari more in a month

The loan portfolio of Georgian banks continues to expand, and residents and companies are increasingly taking out loans in the national currency

The volume of loans issued by Georgian banks reached 75.43 billion lari by the end of June 2026. In one month, the indicator increased by 1.30 billion lari, or 1.75%. Excluding the impact of exchange rate changes, the annual growth of the loan portfolio was 14.47%, according to the National Bank of Georgia.

The largest increase was in loans in national currency. In June, their volume grew by 985.05 million lari, or 2.29%. Loans in foreign currency also increased – by 311.13 million lari, which corresponds to a growth of 1%. The overall level of larization of the loan portfolio reached 58.37%, adding 0.31 percentage points in a month.

Lending to the population and businesses increased most actively. The volume of loans issued to resident companies in lari grew to 11.41 billion lari, and foreign currency loans reached 21.42 billion lari. At the same time, the household sector increased the volume of loans by 701.19 million lari, or 1.78%, to 40.11 billion lari in June.
