The Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) has launched an urgent investigation into the causes of a large-scale power system failure that occurred on the night of July 24. The decision was made due to "urgent necessity," and a special working group gained full access to information from regulated energy companies.

The accident left Tbilisi, Batumi, Kutaisi, Telavi, Borjomi, Bakuriani, Zugdidi, and other settlements without electricity. The outage occurred around 00:10, and power restoration began approximately an hour later and continued until morning. However, the Georgian State Electrosystem has not yet provided an official explanation for the incident.

Amid the lack of precise information, various theories about what happened emerged. Social media reported a possible accident on the power transmission line between Georgia and Turkey, but GSE denied this information. Abkhazia also reported power supply problems, linking them to the Enguri HPP, but the station's management stated that they had no information about any failures at the facility.
