The state budget of Georgia continues to receive more and more funds from fines for violations of public transport rules. In the first six months of 2026, revenues from fare evaders amounted to 1.66 million GEL, which is 68% more than the figure for the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Finance, from January to June 2026, the budget received 1,660,792 GEL from fines for fare evasion. For comparison, in the first six months of 2025, this amount was 990,165 GEL. The growth may be due to both an increase in the number of detected violations and an improvement in the control and collection system.
At the same time, overall budget revenues from fines, sanctions, and penalties grew even more significantly. In the first half of the year, they reached 297.6 million GEL compared to 174.6 million GEL a year earlier. This dynamic shows increased administrative control and improved efficiency in collecting mandatory payments, and the public transport sector is becoming one of the areas where it is increasingly difficult for violators to avoid responsibility.
