Georgia resumed commercial electricity exports to Turkey on July 6, 2026. The reason was an increase in prices in the Turkish market, which again made electricity supplies from Georgia economically attractive. This is stated in the energy market review by Galt & Taggart.

From July 1 to 20, the average cost of electricity in Turkey was about 6 US cents per kWh. Among the companies exporting from Georgia were Adjara Energy 2007, Energy Development Georgia, Svaneti Hydro, Kasleti 2, Aisi LLC, Austrian Georgian Development, and ESCO. There were no commercial deliveries in June – the only exporter was ESCO, which was engaged in returning previously accumulated debt.

Previously, exports to Turkey sharply declined due to falling prices and increased domestic generation in that country. In May, the volume of supplies decreased almost fivefold, amounting to 36.2 million kWh compared to 172 million kWh a year earlier, and the average price dropped to 2.7 cents. Now the situation has changed due to higher prices in the Turkish market, although experts note that the development of solar energy and increased generation within Turkey could again limit electricity imports from Georgia.
