Georgia has officially certified its first school for training ultralight aircraft instructors. The "Mimino" Aviation School received the relevant certificate from the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA), confirming compliance with new state requirements.
Previously, there was no full-fledged system for certified training of such specialists in the country. New rules for training organizations involved in ultralight aviation pilot training came into effect in Georgia on May 1, 2026.
The new standards include requirements for theoretical and practical training, minimum flight hours, aviation school equipment, and instructor qualifications. Now, only organizations that have passed inspection and received official permission are authorized to train and retrain instructors.
GCAA inspectors reviewed the documentation of the "Mimino" school and assessed its training facilities at the airfield, after which they confirmed compliance with the established norms.
Class 2 ultralight aviation includes two-seat aircraft with a maximum takeoff weight of up to 544 kg for land models and up to 614 kg for seaplanes and amphibians. In Georgia, this segment is actively developing due to the growth of the tourism industry and interest in extreme sports. Previously, local pilots often had to undergo training outside the country to obtain the necessary qualifications.
