The volume of bank loans in Georgia reached 73.39 billion lari by the end of May 2026, an increase of 504.46 million lari or 0.69% compared to the previous month. These data are provided by the National Bank of Georgia, noting the steady expansion of lending activity in the financial sector.
The main contribution to growth came from loans in the national currency. Lari lending increased by 384.91 million lari, or 0.92%, over the month, while the volume of foreign currency loans grew by 119.54 million lari, adding 0.39%. Thus, domestic lending remains the main driver of portfolio expansion.

At the same time, foreign currency loans to businesses reached 21.20 billion lari, an increase of 0.19% compared to April.
The most significant growth was recorded in the household sector. The volume of loans to individuals increased by 1.14% and reached 38.68 billion lari, which is equivalent to an increase of 435.92 million lari. Consumer lending was the key factor in the expansion of the overall portfolio.
The share of loans in the national currency continues to gradually increase. The lariization ratio at the end of May was 57.64%, an increase of 0.13 percentage points over the month, reflecting a further strengthening of the lari's role in the structure of bank lending.
