Georgian Banking Sector Shows Profit Growth to 1.54 Billion Lari in 2026

The total profit of 19 commercial banks in Georgia for January–May 2026 increased to 1.54 billion lari. This is 272 million lari or 21% more than in the same period last year. At the same time, some banks remain unprofitable.

Bank of Georgia remains the market leader with a profit of 819 million lari and a 25% year-on-year growth. TBC Bank is in second place, earning 562 million lari, an increase of 16%. BasisBank took third place with a result of 62 million lari and a growth of 53%.

However, a number of banks showed a decrease in profitability. In particular, Liberty Bank reduced its profit by 19% to 42 million lari, which led to its falling out of the top three. Overall, the sector remains heterogeneous in its dynamics.

The total losses of four banks exceeded 42.9 million lari. VTB Bank remains the most unprofitable with a deficit of 26 million lari, despite a reduction in losses compared to last year.

Experts note that the banking sector shows an increasing concentration of profits among the largest players, while small and some international banks continue to experience pressure and operate in the red.
