Georgian operator MagtiCom announced the launch of a 5G network at a record altitude of 3,650 meters above sea level. The base station is located in the area of the meteorological station, which serves as the last acclimatization point before ascending to the peaks and is used by mountaineers and rescue services.
According to the company, the availability of communication in such harsh conditions has not only technological but also practical significance. The high-altitude 5G network allows for prompt coordination of actions in emergency situations, provides stable communication for expeditions, and transmits real-time data on weather and route conditions.
MagtiCom notes that the project places Georgia among the leaders in terms of 5G infrastructure deployment height, strengthening the country's position in digital coverage of complex natural areas. It is also emphasized that the technology can support tourism development and enhance safety in high-mountain regions.
