Port of Poti Gains Momentum

The number of vessel calls and cargo volumes continue to grow, strengthening the position of Georgia's largest port

The Poti Port Container Terminal, operated by APM Terminals Poti, handled 277,081 TEUs in the first five months of 2026, an 8.2% increase compared to the same period last year. For comparison, from January to May 2025, the terminal processed 255,944 TEUs, and in 2024, it was 225,630 TEUs.

Growth accelerated as the summer season approached. In March, 52,959 TEUs were handled, in April the figure rose to 58,665 TEUs, and in May it reached 64,952 TEUs. At the same time, the number of container ships also increased: since the beginning of the year, the port has received 172 vessels compared to 139 a year earlier and 131 in 2024.

Positive dynamics are also observed in other segments. The volume of general cargo increased to 160,857 tons compared to 128,828 tons a year earlier. Sea transportation also showed growth – up to 80,765 tons. The only notable exception was the automotive logistics segment: the number of handled 40-foot containers for car transportation decreased to 6,149 units compared to 8,257 in the same period of 2025. Despite this, the overall indicators confirm the further strengthening of the Port of Poti's role as one of the key transport hubs in the Black Sea region.
