The first passenger train, which departed from Baku the previous evening, arrived in Tbilisi this morning. The train, organized by Azerbaijan Railways, arrived with a slight delay and was met at the city's central station.
The resumption of the route marks the first time in six years that railway service between the capitals of the two countries has been restored. Georgian authorities stated that the restoration of the Baku–Tbilisi line will contribute to an increase in tourist flows and strengthen economic ties.
The train operates on an updated route with stops at key stations along the way. In Azerbaijan, stops are provided in a number of large settlements, and in Georgia, at Gardabani station.
It is noted that the resumed service should become an important factor in the development of transport and tourism integration in the region.
