Georgia has seen a sharp increase in budget revenue from fines for traffic violations. According to the Ministry of Finance, from January to April 2026, the amount of such fines reached 108.3 million GEL, compared to 54.3 million GEL a year earlier – an increase of almost 100%.
Overall, budget revenues from sanctions, fines, and penalties for the first four months of the year increased by 84% and exceeded 192 million GEL. For comparison, during the same period in 2025, this figure was about 104 million GEL. The main part of the revenue came from fines for administrative offenses – over 154.9 million GEL.
The increase in revenue from traffic violations may be associated with both increased control and the expansion of automated violation detection systems. Amidst the growing number of cameras and the digitalization of traffic control, fine revenues are becoming an increasingly significant source of income for the Georgian budget.
