Georgia recorded stable passenger traffic on railways in 2025 – 1,678,421 people used the services. The majority of trips were on main lines, while suburban routes accounted for about a third of transportation.
According to industry statistics, train occupancy fluctuates significantly: during seasonal periods on popular routes, it sometimes exceeds 100%, but on average for the year, it decreased to 64% compared to 75% a year earlier. This indicates uneven demand and dependence on tourist and seasonal factors.
The freight segment showed a decline: transportation decreased by 3% and amounted to 13.3 million tons. At the same time, transit accounted for the main share (57.5%), while domestic transportation remains minimal. This structure emphasizes the country's role as a transport corridor between regions, rather than just an internal market.
