Xiaomi May Come to Georgia: Authorities Proposed Opening an Assembly Plant

The discussion is about creating a CKD site and turning the country into a new logistics hub for deliveries to Europe and Asia

Georgian authorities have proposed that the Chinese company Xiaomi consider launching local assembly production in the country. The initiative was voiced during the visit of Minister of Economy Mariam Kvrivishvili to China, where a meeting was held with company representative Simon Du, who is responsible for international contacts.

The CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production format is being discussed, where components would be imported, and final assembly would take place in Georgia. According to the Georgian side, this would allow the use of preferential trade regimes and the supply of finished products to regional markets, expanding export opportunities.

Georgia also proposed considering itself as a base for regional logistics, including automotive transport. Thanks to its geographical location between Europe and Asia, the country expects to strengthen supplies to the EU, the Black Sea region, the Caucasus, the Persian Gulf, and Central Asia, against the backdrop of existing free trade agreements with China.
