Tbilisi loses Russian TV channels

The reasons for the shutdown have not yet been disclosed, operators promise to restore the signal in the coming days

In the evening in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, cable television users faced the disappearance of a number of Russian TV channels. Channel One, RTR Planeta, Russia Kultura, RenTV, NTV Mir and Friday disappeared from the air, and a test card appeared on the screens instead of the usual signal. At the same time, the operators did not give official explanations of what happened.

According to local media, the shutdown affected several cable networks at once, which indicates a systemic nature of the failure or decisions at the level of providers. At the same time, the companies themselves limited themselves to messages about the temporary nature of the situation and stated that the broadcast would be restored in the coming days, without specifying the reasons for the suspension of broadcasting.

The situation has attracted attention against the background of the previously changed media landscape in the country: a year ago, the opposition TV channel Mtavari Archi stopped broadcasting in Georgia. Against this background, the disappearance of Russian channels added tension to the information agenda, although there have been no official comments from regulators or authorities yet.
