Fines Soared 5x: Georgian Businesses Paid Record Amount

Antitrust violations cost companies millions of lari

In Georgia in 2025, businesses faced a sharp increase in fines for violations of antitrust laws. According to the Georgian Competition Agency, total payments reached 1.7 million lari (about $630,000), which is 5 times higher than in 2024.

The largest fine was received by the Rustavi car market - 850 thousand lari for inflated parking rates for car importers. Significant sanctions also affected the pharmaceutical sector: 4 companies paid a total of 560 thousand lari for artificially raising drug prices.

In addition, the regulator revealed violations during the merger of companies - in 9 episodes, fines exceeded 600 thousand lari. Another 136 thousand lari was paid by businesses for infringing on consumer rights. The authorities are tightening control over the market, which has already led to a sharp increase in financial sanctions for companies.
