Fines for Emissions Hit Records: Georgia Tightens Air Quality Control

6,022 fines issued in 2025

The number of fines for air pollution from vehicle emissions is rapidly increasing in Georgia. While inspectors recorded 2,980 violations in 2023, this number rose to 5,565 in 2024, and reached 6,022 by the end of 2025. Moreover, over 2,200 fines have been issued in the first three months of 2026 alone, indicating a further tightening of control.

The total amount of penalties collected during this period reached 4.5 million GEL (approximately $1.7 million). The increase in figures is attributed to both an increase in the number of inspections and greater attention to environmental standards, especially in the country's major cities.

The highest number of violations was recorded in Tbilisi, accounting for 53% of all fines. It is followed by Batumi (18%) and Kutaisi (16%), where a high level of transport emission control is also observed.
