Georgia Tightens Rules for IT Immigrants: Requires Income of $25,000 and 2 Years of Experience

New requirements will affect both hired specialists and entrepreneurs

Georgia has updated the rules for obtaining a temporary residence permit for foreign IT specialists. Now, to apply, it is necessary to confirm at least 2 years of work experience in the industry, as well as income for the last year at a level not lower than $25,000.

Additionally, a requirement for income stability is introduced: the applicant must prove that they received this amount in at least two payments with an interval of at least 30 days. The new rules apply not only to hired employees, but also to foreigners with the status of a small entrepreneur, who will have to document their activities.

Separate conditions are provided for representatives and managers of international IT companies — they need to provide documents confirming their authority. At the same time, in some cases, the authorities will be able to check employment data through electronic systems, without the need to provide additional certificates.
