Importers Take the Hit: Global Auto Import Compensates for Increased Car Duties in Georgia

The company promised to refund the difference to customers after a sharp increase in excise taxes in Georgia

Global Auto Import has announced compensation for increased customs duties for some customers. This concerns car owners who purchased cars but were unable to import them into the country before April 1 due to delays in logistics and high demand.

The importer stated that it would cover the difference between the old and new rates for cars with a "mark" of 2020 and older, if delivery was not started on time. The condition applies to cars purchased at American auctions in compliance with the company's previously announced rules.

The reason was an urgent reform adopted by the Georgian Parliament, which significantly increased excise taxes on car imports. The import of cars older than 6 years has become especially expensive - the rate has increased by more than 5 times. The new measures are aimed at curbing the flow of cars, while hybrids younger than 6 years are entitled to a 60% discount, which should partially compensate for the increase in the tax burden.
