In Georgia, electricity consumption exceeded 2.7 billion kWh in the first 2 months of 2026, while domestic generation amounted to only 1.9 billion kWh. The gap is covered by imports, which reached 853.2 million kWh, according to data from the energy system operator ESCO.
The largest external supplier remains Russia — 583.1 million kWh came from there, with a significant part, 349.3 million kWh, coming from Abkhazia. Electricity was also purchased from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. Against this background, about 20% of total consumption was provided by direct buyers — large companies that purchase electricity directly on the wholesale market.
Among the main consumers were not only industrial giants like the Zestafoni Ferroalloy Plant, but also crypto mining companies. Thus, Aitech Solution and Texprint Corporation were among the top 10 in terms of consumption, which confirms the increasing role of the crypto industry in the country's energy balance. According to the current rules, the status of a direct consumer is granted to companies with a monthly consumption of over 400 thousand kWh, which allows them to purchase electricity without intermediaries.
