The Tbilisi Transport Company has completed accepting applications for the tender for the design and construction of a new tram line with a length of 7.5 kilometers with 11 stops. Three Turkish companies and one Chinese enterprise applied for the competition worth 416.6 million lari. The lowest price — 287.7 million lari — was offered by the Turkish EmreRay Enerji İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., while the highest tariff — 412.6 million lari — was offered by Doğuş İnşaat ve Ticaret A.Ş.
The other two participants were the Chinese Wuhan Municipal Construction Group with an application for 397.5 million lari and the Turkish YDA İnşaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. — 332.4 million lari. Now the transport company will check the technical qualifications and experience of the participants: companies without sufficient experience in the construction of tram infrastructure may be removed.
Plans to launch a tram in Tbilisi have been discussed since December 2023, when options for connecting Didi Digomi with the central districts of the city were presented. Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced the tender in August 2025, and the commissioning of the line is scheduled for 2035. The new project will be a revival of tram transport, which in the early 20th century was an important part of the urban infrastructure.
