Three men were detained in Batumi - born in 1998, 1996 and 1984, one of whom already had a criminal record. According to the investigation, the perpetrators slipped fake banknotes into quick payment terminals, which the machines accepted as real, and the funds were credited to the accounts they specified.
The amount of successful transactions reached 8,000 GEL, but some attempts to commit fraud were unsuccessful. During the searches of the suspects and in their cars, counterfeit banknotes were seized, and evidence of involvement in the crime was collected.
The case is being investigated under articles on fraud and attempted fraud of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The maximum penalty for the accused is up to 9 years of imprisonment, the investigation continues to establish all the details of the scheme.
