60% of GDP in one hand: Forbes showed who really manages Georgia's money

Mikheil Lomtadze took first place with a fortune of about 16 billion GEL

Forbes' ranking of the 100 richest entrepreneurs in Georgia revealed not only the scale of capital concentration, but also the close intertwining of business and politics. The total value of the participants' assets exceeded 60 billion GEL — this is almost 60% of the country's GDP and approximately 3 times more than the annual budget revenues. At least 12 people on the list are directly connected to the political elite.

Mikheil Lomtadze took first place with a fortune of about 16 billion GEL — his key assets are concentrated in the fintech company Kaspi.kz. He is followed by Bidzina Ivanishvili with 7 billion GEL, as well as Giorgi Jokhtaberidze, who controls most of the operator Magticom. Among the largest players are also Irakli Rukhadze with assets of over 2 billion GEL and Temur Chkonia, who manages Coca-Cola Bottlers Georgia and the McDonald's chain in the country.

The study also showed the structure of the economy: about 70% of the capital is concentrated in five sectors — finance, trade, telecom, medicine and real estate. At the same time, most billionaires are over 50 years old, and there are only a few young entrepreneurs on the list. Among women, Laura Larioni, Maka Asatiani and other participants whose assets are concentrated in transport, industry and services stand out.
