Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced that from April 1, instead of a ban on the import and registration of cars older than 6 years, an excise tax will be introduced. Previously, authorities planned to completely ban the import of such cars, which caused a negative reaction among importers.
The new tax will be 4.5 GEL per cubic centimeter of engine displacement. This decision will preserve the used car market and simultaneously replenish the country's budget.
According to Kobakhidze, the measure is designed to replace the restriction, maintaining the availability of cars for citizens and supporting the activities of car importers, while ensuring control and collection of funds from old vehicles.
