In February 2026, 831 cars were identified in Georgia with exhaust emissions exceeding permissible levels. The inspections were carried out by employees of the Department of Environmental Supervision of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture in the four largest cities of the country.
Most violations were recorded in Tbilisi — 489 cases. In Batumi, 138 cars were found to exceed emission standards, in Kutaisi — 126, and in Rustavi — 78. Inspectors check transport daily on city roads, controlling the level of emissions as part of a program to improve air quality.
The control system has been in operation since September 2023. After analyzing the first results, the department strengthened inspections: the number of crews was increased, hybrid cars with special measuring devices were purchased, and employees undergo additional training. Currently, 15 specialized groups are working on the roads, and in the first two months of 2026 alone, they have already identified 1417 cases of exceeding car emission standards. 🚗
