Commercial banks in Georgia started 2026 with a noticeable increase in financial performance. According to the National Bank of the country, in January, 19 banks earned a total of 283.3 million lari (about 106 million dollars), which is 19% more compared to the same period last year.
The lion's share of the profit came from the two largest banks in the country. Bank of Georgia received 149 million lari (approximately 56 million dollars), and TBC Bank earned about 102 million lari (38 million dollars). In total, these two financial institutions account for about 89% of the total profit of the banking sector.
At the same time, not all banks finished the month in the black. Losses were recorded by four financial institutions — VTB, HashBank, Paysera Bank and Silk Bank, while the remaining market participants showed positive results.
