Georgia has signed a new framework agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), consolidating priority areas of partnership and creating a foundation for joint projects. The document covers key areas, including nuclear and radiation safety, healthcare, agriculture, energy, and industry, which will allow the country to develop these areas systematically and consistently.
According to Nino Utiashvili, Head of the Agency for Nuclear and Radiation Safety, the program will provide support to critical areas such as protecting the public from radiation risks, food security, and protecting water and the environment. These measures are considered necessary to improve the quality of life for the population and the long-term economic development of the country.
The first agreement between Georgia and the IAEA was in effect from 2020 to 2025, and the extension of the program demonstrates a strong partnership and a shared interest in strengthening a sustainable nuclear and radiation safety system in the country.
