Georgia Prepares to Become an Energy Bridge Between Europe and the Caucasus

Contract Signed with Consulting Company CESI

Georgia has signed a contract with the Italian consulting company CESI to prepare a project for an underwater cable in the Black Sea. The agreement provides for the development of tender documentation for a technical study of the seabed, including geotechnical and geophysical work. CESI has already prepared a feasibility study confirming the economic and technical feasibility of the project, making Georgia a potential energy hub for the region.

The contract also defines the list of works for a future tender for a company that will conduct seabed research. The construction of an underwater cable between Georgia and Romania is planned, which will allow trade, transit, import and export of electricity between the countries and strengthen the energy independence of the region.

The Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia emphasized that all preparatory work, including research and obtaining licenses, should be completed by 2029, and the project itself should be commissioned by 2032. The implementation of the underwater cable will open up new opportunities for diversifying energy supplies and increasing the security of the region's energy system.
