All in the name of ecology: Georgia is preparing to abandon plastic bottles

The ban could be introduced as early as next year

The Georgian government intends to ban the sale of drinks in plastic bottles. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili. According to him, the restrictions are planned to be launched as early as next year.

Exceptions will be made for vegetable oil in plastic containers and drinking water with a volume of more than 10 liters. In addition, the new rules will not affect products intended for export.

The initiative is part of a large-scale campaign to reduce the use of plastic. Since the beginning of the year, the country has already banned the production of disposable plastic products for the domestic market, and from April, government agencies will be prohibited from purchasing plastic dishes and bottles up to 3 liters. In the summer, restrictions will extend to hotels, restaurants and cafes.
