A regular container train has been launched between Poti and Baku

The new route will speed up cargo transit along the Middle Corridor and ease pressure on roads

Georgian Railway (GR) announced the launch of a regular container train between the ports of Poti and Baku. The new route will significantly reduce cargo transit time between the Black and Caspian seas and simplify the transportation of both loaded and empty containers, easing pressure on highways and reducing the environmental burden.

The block train runs along the Batumi–Poti–Tbilisi–Absheron–Sumgait–Alyat route, offering cargo owners a "terminal-to-door" service. A fixed schedule and pre-established tariffs ensure precise planning of delivery times and container returns, increasing the attractiveness of the Middle Corridor for business.

The ceremony welcoming the first train was held at the Poti terminal with the participation of the heads of the railways of Georgia and Azerbaijan. GR Director General Lasha Abashidze emphasized that the project will not only improve the safety and efficiency of transportation, but will also be economically beneficial for the company, contributing to revenue growth.
