TAV Georgia announced the launch of a project to expand Batumi International Airport. CEO Tea Zakaradze emphasized that the work is urgently needed due to the rapid growth in passenger traffic. In 2025, the airport served 1.2 million people, which is close to the limit of its capacity of 1.4–1.5 million.
As part of the expansion, it is planned to add four new check-in counters, free the terminal from office premises, and create a new waiting area to streamline passenger flow. New office premises for staff will also be built outside the terminal, which will make it possible to increase passenger space and improve service comfort.
TAV Georgia is already in talks with the Ministry of Economy on extending the contract for operating Batumi Airport, which expires in August 2027.
Experts note that the growth of tourism in the region makes the modernization of Batumi Airport critically important. The implementation of the project will not only increase capacity, but also improve the quality of service for passengers, as well as create new jobs and strengthen the region's transport infrastructure.
