Georgia brings together the country's leading universities

The authorities plan to merge the Technical University with TSU

Tbilisi State University and Georgian Technical University are preparing for a merger, Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze said. A temporary council will be created to manage the process, and acting rector and vice-rectors will also be appointed to oversee the reform.

The decision to merge was made after a comparative analysis of academic programs, scientific infrastructure, and international practice. The combined university is expected to strengthen its position in international rankings and become a leading center of academic and scientific development in the region.

The minister emphasized that the reorganization is aimed at the country’s long-term interests and the improvement of the higher education system. The creation of a temporary governing body and the appointment of administrators are intended to ensure a smooth transition and the effective integration of the two universities.
