In 2025, electricity production in Georgia amounted to 13.8 billion kWh, which is 3% less than the level of 2024, while domestic consumption increased to 14.9 billion kWh. The gap between production and demand had to be covered by imports.
The volume of imported electricity increased by 27% and reached 1.5 billion kWh. The main supplier was Russia, which provided 971 million kWh, which is almost a billion.
The increase in imports reflects the growing gap between domestic production capacity and consumption, and also highlights Georgia's dependence on external electricity supplies in the face of growing demand.
