Starting in 2026, a new education system will be launched in Georgian universities, radically reducing the time it takes to obtain diplomas. Now, a bachelor's degree can be obtained in three years instead of four, and a master's degree in one year instead of two. After gaining 300 credits, students will be able to continue their studies at European universities and apply for a doctoral degree.
State universities will remain free for Georgian citizens, but quotas will appear in the faculties. The number of identical educational programs in universities will be reduced to one, while students will be able to choose an alternative among commercial universities.
For foreign students, the doors of state universities are almost closed: admission is possible only through exchange programs. Others will be able to study in private educational institutions. The new system aims to improve the quality of education and accelerate the career start of young professionals.
