Reconstruction of Varketili Metro Station Delayed

The station in Tbilisi is now scheduled to open no earlier than the end of March 2026

The completion of the renovation of Varketili Metro Station in Tbilisi has been delayed again: the new completion date is March 31, 2026. The work has been ongoing for more than three years, and the latest delay is due to the need to complete the design of the upper lobby, which has been carried out by another contractor since September 2025.

The contractor, Bada Construction, initially requested a delay until the end of May, but the Tbilisi Transport Company did not agree to a five-month extension. The company notes that part of the delay is related to third parties involved in the design and preparation of the station.

Varketili Station was opened in 1985, and the last major renovation was carried out in 2017, but shortly after that, the ceiling collapsed, injuring 14 people. Since then, the work has been repeatedly postponed, contractors have changed, and residents of the residential area have faced inconveniences - the station remained closed for almost all of last summer.
