Georgia Changes Transit Numbers: New Rules and Price Increase

The cost of transit numbers has increased many times over

From March 1, 2026, new rules for domestic transit license plates for cars and motorcycles will come into force in Georgia. According to the government decree of December 26, 2025, the red stripe will be replaced by a blue one, and the existing "domestic transit" signs will only be retained as "transit" signs.

The Service Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be responsible for the production of new numbers and the organization of their issuance by the set date. At the same time, the validity period of old signs issued before March 1, 2026 remains within the framework of current legislation, which will avoid problems for owners of already registered numbers.

In addition to visual changes, from January 1, 2026, the cost of transit numbers increased almost 7.5 times - from 50 GEL to 370 GEL. This will make the re-registration more expensive, but at the same time will lead to the unification and updating of the transit sign system in the country.
