The tram is back: Tbilisi launches tender for line construction

Authorities promise to name the contractor at the end of January

Tbilisi has officially announced a tender for the construction of a tram line. This was stated by the Mayor of the capital, Kakha Kaladze, at a government meeting, refuting rumors that the project would allegedly not be implemented. According to him, the disseminated information about "deceiving the public" is not true.

Kaladze emphasized that the competitive procedure has already been launched, and the winning company will be determined at the end of January. This company will begin the practical implementation of the project. The Mayor noted that there has been a lot of speculation around the topic of the tram recently, but the city authorities intend to bring the initiative to an end.

The head of the capital also stated that the future tram line should not become a one-time event. According to him, this is not the first and not the last tram project for Tbilisi, and the development of tram transport is seen as part of a long-term strategy to modernize urban infrastructure and reduce transport load.
