Electricity Prices to Rise: Georgia Prepares New Electricity Tariffs

The regulator promises to announce the decision on recalculating rates on December 29

Consumer electricity tariffs are expected to increase in Georgia. This was announced by the Chairman of the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, David Narmania, speaking at the "Mtavari Media Center" press club. According to him, the new tariffs should be approved at a meeting on December 29.

Narmania recalled that consumer electricity tariffs had been reduced by 3 tetri over the past 2 years, but now the regulator is obliged to recalculate them by the end of the year. At the same time, he stressed that at this stage there are "no expectations or prerequisites" for an increase in natural gas tariffs - only a minimal adjustment is possible, and the main increase will affect electricity. Specific figures and percentages have not yet been named.

Separately, the head of the commission noted decisions that, according to him, directly supported consumers: in 2025, up to 1 million GEL of incorrectly charged payments and overdue debts were written off following appeals from citizens. In addition, automatic compensation for violations of rules and deadlines by utility companies exceeded 5.7 million GEL per year.
