Georgian Power Grids to Undergo Billion-Dollar Upgrade

Telasi and Energo Pro Georgia to invest up to 2 billion GEL in reliability and "smart" metering

Georgia's largest energy companies, Telasi and Energo Pro Georgia, are preparing for a large-scale modernization of power grids. In 2026–2030, they plan to invest about 2 billion GEL, which is equivalent to approximately 740 million dollars. The plan, approved by the regulator, covers projects throughout the country and aims to qualitatively upgrade the distribution infrastructure.

A key element of the program will be the installation of smart meters. They will automate electricity metering, reduce losses, and increase the transparency of calculations for consumers. At the same time, companies will implement technical solutions aimed at improving operational safety, resistance to accidents, and the overall reliability of networks.

It is expected that the modernization will improve the quality of electricity supply in both large cities and regions, as well as create a foundation for further digitalization of the industry. Authorities and the regulator expect that the investments will accelerate infrastructure upgrades and ensure the stable operation of the power system for years to come.
