Georgia is preparing to introduce uniform aesthetic standards for building facades throughout the country. The draft resolution was presented to the private sector this week, according to Minister of Economy Mariam Kvrivishvili. The initiative involves establishing common requirements for the appearance of new buildings in all regions.
According to the proposal, the colors of facades and roofs, the materials used, and other visual parameters of buildings will be regulated. They must correspond to the historical context and existing buildings of a particular area. A study is currently underway, following which a separate project is planned for each region, taking into account urban planning features.
Work on the initiative has been underway for several months with the participation of the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Ministry of Culture, and the Urban Development Agency, as well as with the involvement of architects, developers, and business representatives. The new rules provide for standard and non-standard permitting practices: the latter will allow for the implementation of architectural solutions with a different design. Implementation dates have not yet been announced; the reform is expected to begin in the regions.
